Resolved: Emergency Upgrade to Mitel MiCollab Telephony Service – Monday 24 July, from 7pm – 12am

Summary

Update 27/7/23: Tonight’s upgrade work was successfully completed. Please note that logging into MiCollab, if you receive a prompt showing an option to update, please click “Dismiss”. You will then be able to login and continue as normal. These updates will be applied to your MiCollab clients automatically over the next few days.

Campus/Building specific: All On-Campus & Remote MiCollab Users

Impact to users and services affected:

Between 8pm and midnight on Monday 24 July there will be a number of minor interruptions to some telephone calls while a number of telephony servers are upgraded ahead of clearing.

There is a small risk that staff with physical on-campus handsets may need to re-login to their handsets on Tuesday morning after the upgrade.

Background information:

In preparation for Clearing 2023 ITS has been carrying out load testing on the Mitel telephony system.  Some issues have been encountered under very heavy load resulting in call blockage where further calls cannot get through.

The manufacturer, Mitel, has identified an unpublished ‘developer’ defect affecting the software version currently used at QM  and is recommended an upgrade to addresses this defect.

The risk of not doing this upgrade is that incoming calls on the 17th of August (first day of clearing) may be affected.

Due to the resilience built in to Telephony service only minor interruptions to service are expected during this upgrade.
