Service Status Update: Microsoft Outlook – Service Disruption

Current State of Service: 🟑 Degraded Performance

Issue Summary:

Microsoft is currently experiencing issues with Outlook on the evening of Monday 31 August 2026. The incident is affecting multiple customers across the UK, including Queen Mary University of London (QMUL).

Users may experience difficulties logging in to Outlook and accessing their email, including repeated login attempts or error messages.

Other Microsoft Office365 services may also be affected, such as Teams, OneDrive, Office Online.

Microsoft is investigating the issue and working to restore the service. QMUL IT Services is monitoring the situation.

We will provide a further update as soon as more information becomes available and the issue has been resolved.

Updates:

01/09/2026 14:30 – Microsoft has made significant progress in restoring Exchange Online following yesterday’s widespread incident. Email delivery has returned to normal, and the issue appears to have been resolved. We will continue to monitor the situation closely to ensure services remain stable and to identify any further issues should they arise.

01/09/2026 08:30 – Microsoft continues to work on Exchange Online incident, which has been affecting Outlook and other Exchange Online functionality. Microsoft has identified an issue with an authentication component and has rolled out the remediation. At present, Microsoft has not provided a confirmed ETA for full service restoration. We continue to monitor the incident and will provide further updates as they become available.


31/08/2026 20:30 – Microsoft is continuing to investigate the Exchange Online incident (EX1464935) affecting Outlook and other Exchange Online functionality. Microsoft has not yet provided a confirmed ETA for full resolution. We are monitoring Microsoft’s service updates and will provide further information as it becomes available.
